Experiencing Plastic Cartridges, Syringes, Nozzles, Plungers, Seals & Caps Shortage? We Have Plenty In Stock At Techcon.

Packaging raw material shortages have created a painful crisis in many areas of industrial manufacturing. Shipping delays and price hikes have been disrupting the manufacturing supply chain for the electronics industry since early 2020 and may continue to be the biggest challenge for the next several months.

Resins used by producers of plastic cartridges and syringes have been significantly affected, and our team is receiving calls daily to see if we can fulfill orders for disposable plastic cartridges, syringe barrels and nozzles normally purchased from our competitors.

Here at Techcon though, it’s business as usual. As a result of our well-established material sourcing structure, which we’ve built over our 60 years in business, as well as our extensive manufacturing capabilities, we are uniquely positioned to meet and promptly fulfill drop-in replacements for many competitive style cartridges, syringe barrels and nozzles.

How Did These Packaging Material Shortages Happen?

As might be expected, it took more than one supply chain disruption to create sustained material packaging shortages across multiple industries.

It started with the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, which has been the root cause of so many ongoing business challenges since early 2020. Plants that were closed for many months have reopened but have not been able to build their workforce back to pre-COVID levels. This setback was made worse by winter storms in Texas this past February, which led to the closure of some of the world’s largest petrochemical companies.

As if that was not enough, bad weather in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea regions of the world resulted in a container ship running aground in Egypt’s Suez Canal, halting shipping traffic through one of the world’s most important waterways, which is responsible for up to 12% of global trade.

Taken together, these unprecedented series of events created a perfect storm of calamities that have resulted in the worst raw material shortages for plastic resin since the 1970s. This has caused suppliers to either inflict massive price hikes on their orders or cancel orders altogether.

Addressing The Challenge

Significantly increased lead times have resulted from these disruptions. Many material packaging companies have been forced to focus on their largest customers, driving their other customers to stop production as they “wait in line” or find an alternative supply. Identifying these alternative suppliers now to fulfill need and handle long-term orders is becoming increasingly important.
